A modern t2 single story home for a family of three. A clever use of the plot allows for year round warmth and balance between private spaces, living areas and outdoor connection. located on the outskirts of Lisbon, in Abrunheira. It was of extreme importance to have passive solar gains as well as allow for nice flow of circulation in the interiors, being only a 132 square meter footprint house. Cross ventilation is allowed in almost every single divisory, and an interesting connection between the main entrance, facing north, and the main indoor and outdoor living space is created by allowing a visual continuity.
A clever and thoughtful approach was required, in order to take full advantage of the allowed buildable polygon and the reduced size of the plot, inserted into an urban area which has seen a lot of new buildings. The plot had an uneven shape and the loteamento rules only allowed to build following a diagonal line, which we refused and countered with a straightforward design, taking in generous sun and west light into the main living spaces (living room & kitchen) but also allowing the master bedroom to have a direct connection with the exterior.
A large outdoor deck and living area, covered with a large wooden pergola, overlooks the swimming pool and backyard.
